Interlaken

Interlaken was formed as a borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 11, 1922, from portions of Ocean Township, based on the results of a referendum held on May 3, 1922. The town is named after Interlaken, a peninsula in Switzerland situated between two lakes, by Dr. Francis Weld, a Boston physician, who had purchased the original 364-acre (1.47 km2) tract.
