On July 30, 1879, Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th president of the U.S., attended ceremonies in Ocean Grove celebraing the 10th anniversary of the first religious meetings held there. Hayes, who was invited by the Rev. Dr. Ellwood H. Stokes, first president of the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association, stayed at the Arlington House.
